The latest offering from Proof and Wood Ventures is the Deadwood Straight Bourbon. P&W might not be familiar, but you’d know the minds behind it by their previous line of whiskeys: Redemption. And like the Redemption series everything, whiskey-wise, in their new portfolio is sourced from MGP.
Being veterans of the sourcing biz everything is properly disclosed on the label so there’s nothing to nitpick about. It’s a young MGP bourbon from their 21% rye mash bill, so we should all know what to expect from this. But, just to be sure I went ahead and typed up a bourbon review anyways.

Deadwood Straight Bourbon Review: Overall and Score
For what it is, a young low proof MGP bourbon, it’s not bad. Aroma is a nutty sugary sweet profile and shows the youth, but not in an off-putting way; Palate is pretty much the same through and through but with a fruitier kicker; Finish is a quick sweet fade. As it opens the corn notes show through more prominently.
On the whole, Deadwood Straight Bourbon is a mild, no-frills, bourbon delivered at a decent price. If you’re looking for something basic that works well in cocktails and/or a mild sipper this would definitely fit the bill.
SCORE: 78/100 (C+)
*Disclosure: This Deadwood Straight Bourbon was graciously sent to me by the company for the purposes of this review. The views, opinions, and tasting notes are 100% my own.
