When you have a baby it's hard to seperate yourself from being parents and being just a couple, after all this little person relies on you completely, for food, drink, playtime and everything else, it's important though to spend some quality time together, alone and with friends! I've conjured up 4 things you can do together, whether it's your first time away from your little one and you just want a few hours together, or if you're looking at making a night of it (even overnight) hopefully these will inspire you!
1. Movie night/afternoon
This is a good one to begin with, have a family member or trusted friend take your little one for a couple of hours for you, pick out a movie together, get some snacks and snuggle up together, just having time where you're not constantly having to check what they're up to or making loud noises every minute, just enjoy the company of eachother, a comfy sofa, yummy food and adult conversation! Simple things :)
2. Go out for a meal
Some babies are much happier in their own environment, they have their toys and know exactly where they are, that can make all the difference! Once you know they're in good hands, find a nice cafe/restaurant/pub to have some yummy lunch, again, if it's your first few times away from your baby you don't have to go too far from home! This gives you a chance to actually talk to eachother and be adults, yes you'll probably talk about your baby the whole evening but hey! Eat lots, enjoy it, a starter, main course and a dessert, take full advantage of it and enjoy your time together, you'll probably start reconnecting again, important for any relationship :)
3. Go to a concert!
This is probably a much bigger decision to make, you'll need to feel more confident as you'll be gone probably most of the night if not overnight too if it's a late show, make sure you feel comfortable with who you're leaving them with and being away for the night! Seeing a show together can actually get reconnecting on another level, there are so many things you can see, from Jimmy Carr to Mamma Mia, the Boyzone Tour 2013 to Strictly Come Dancing, so whether you're looking for something to make you both laugh or something you can sing along to, just make sure you agree ;). If you fancy making the night of it, check yourself into a little hotel somewhere and enjoy the peace and quiet of a good nights sleep without a 6am wake up call!
4. Games night
Such a fun one to do, chances are I it's just the two of you you'll spend the whole time talking your children, so why not invite some friends over too, you can get competitive and the conversation will be varied too, get some good music on in the background, a load of board games, some snacks and great company! Get your competitive side out and have a laugh!
When did you leave your little ones for the first time?
