There are some realities that I have come to accept when it comes to running outside year-round. One such reality is the need to bundle up considerably in January in order to stay warm. This made today’s run quite strange. I checked the weather, and responded by pulling out a pair of shorts, a short-sleeve shirt, a hat, and sunglasses. I headed out to some local trails for hill repeats and #traillove.

Run: 8 miles with some excellent elevation gain. I’ve enjoyed breaking in my new pair of Montrail Fluidflex IIs this weekend. I love these shoes as always!
Thought: It seems odd that I would be thinking about suffering and why we push ourselves. However, the combination of many friends back in Iowa braving the elements to gut out their training runs, and this article gave me pause to consider just such a question. It’s certainly a mindset that involves internal motivation but I truly believe it’s more than that. There is a particular ideology that pushes others past limits that some simply won’t consider passing. It’s a fascinating topic for consideration. What constitutes suffering for you? what limits will you or won’t you push yourself past?
