Daily Chase: Vol. 18

Sometimes we have the best intentions, but lack the proper information to aid us in following through on those intentions. The outcome can still be quite enjoyable, although not exactly what you had in mind. Last night was just one of those evenings! I had planned on meeting a group of runners for a regular Thursday night hill workout. Unfortunately, I seemed to have the location wrong in my head, unless of course I was the only one out there :) However, the result was still a fantastic run, the discovery of a new route, and some fantastic hills to add to my utility belt.

Run: I was off work a bit early, so I was able to spend a bit more time hitting the road, and I managed to find a perfect hill for repeats along the way. In the process, I was able to formulate a new route to mix things up, and squeeze in a longer weekday run along the way. I’d call it a win, despite not being my initial plan!

Thought: How well do you know your community and the area you run in? I’ve found myself asking that a lot in the past 6 months after relocating halfway across the country. In Iowa, I felt like I knew every possible route, and could tell you how far it was from any point A and to any point B. I’ve missed that knowledge, but have done my best to embrace the unknown. However, in recent weeks, I’ve reverted back to several “safe” routes, perhaps out of some form of planning laziness. It occurred to me last night as I was discovering areas within a few miles of my house that I didn’t fully know that I needed to be better about continuing to explore. I live in a much larger urban area now, so I have a lot more ground to cover. That’s just part of the fun of #chasing42!
