Dahlias in the Studio

By Pattyhankins @PattyHankins

One of my favorite types of flowers to photograph in my studio is dahlias. Under the controlled lights I’m able to light the flowers exactly like I want them be lit. I can also choose which blossoms I’m going to photograph, and from what angle – as opposed to having to photograph what I find in front of me out in the field. For some reason, dahlias are one of those flowers that I’ve never been really happy with my photos of before I started photographing in the studio. Now I can’t wait to see what dahlias I can find from Wollam Gardens at the Farmer’s Market and bring them into the studio to photograph them.
