A care home in the Cumbrian market town of Egremont has been praised by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for the quality of care it provides to its residents.
The Walsingham care home, which specialises in providing care for people who have physical disabilities, sensory impairments or learning disabilities, was recently inspected by CQC officers. A report produced after the visit stated that the facility was meeting all key standards relating to:
• Staffing and care training for staff
• Safeguarding residents from neglect and abuse
• Meeting residents’ nutritional and dietary needs
• The general care and welfare of people using the home’s services
• The safety and suitability of its premises and equipment
In fact, the only issue inspectors could provide criticism on related to the personal finances of some residents, who could benefit from some professional advice.
Explaining that the home was generally very well-run, the report stated:
“People who lived in the service were helped with all aspects of personal care and they were supported to access health care.
“Each person saw the specialist consultant for learning disability, social workers and specialist nurses for learning disability. People received suitable and nutritious food and were helped and supported to eat as well as possible.”
