Criminal Minds 7x05: From Childhood's Hour

Original Air Date: 19 October 2011

Storyline: The BAU travels to St. Louis to investigate the disappearances of young children with troubled mothers as Rossi reconnects with his first wife, Carolyn, who brings him disturbing news.Trivia: The title of this episode ("From Childhood's Hour") was derived from a poem by Edgar Allan Poe of the same name.Best Quote:

Morgan: Four pairs of shoes.
Reid: Why, exactly, is that relevant?
Morgan: Come on, Reid. How many women you know only have four pairs of shoes in their closet?
Reid: My experience in and around women's closets isn't exactly extensive enough to really formulate an opinion.

Intro"From childhood's hour I have not been as others were, I have not seen as others saw." Edgar Allan Poe. (Reid)Outro"All things truly wicked start from an innocence." Ernest Hemingway. (Rossi)Review: New showrunner Erica Messer surely knows how to combine the almost clinical profiling with the personal element. Criminal Minds has run for six seasons and, just when I thought I'd seen it all, this new element just makes things better. We still have everything that makes this show probably the best procedural on TV - the gore, the psychos and the point-on profiling, but having a small insight into the characters' each episode makes us connect with them at another level.

Rossi's encounter with his first wife, Carolyn, takes him from being hopeful in rekindling a relationship with her to finding out a heartbreaking truth: she has ALS and very short time left and she needs his help... to die on her own terms. This plot should be revisited in later episodes, Rossi's reaction was heartbreaking and there's room to develop the relationship between him and his first wife.
As for the case, it wasn't the first time we saw a killer actually act out of a hero complex, but that didn't make it less entertaining. There's always something chilling when the child abuse topic is touched. Honestly, I'd endorse someone taking the matter in his own hands and saving those children from their abusive parents, since most of the time the legal system simply does not work, but maybe skip the killing, dude!
Shemar Moore reunited with his former The Young and the Restless co-star Heather Tom (and the years have not been as kind on her as they have been on him), who played the role of a mother who went to extremes to save her adolescent daughter by sacrificing herself. Again, nothing we haven't seen before, but at least she didn't forget how to bring drama to life.
Other highlights included Reid's complete lack of understanding when it came to female nature, Emily's advice to Rossi and Garcia's Lamborghini reference, which took her usual flirting with Morgan at an entirely new level of sexuality ("this time, Derek, you have seriously overheated my engines and I will require some cool-down laps upon your return").
