Window treatments are crucial to the look and feel of your bathroom. Natural light is a big draw when looking at houses and apartments. And for good reason. Natural light has a bunch of really awesome benefits. A few include improving your mood, boosting vitamin D, and increasing productivity. Improving your mood and increasing productivity are two crucial aspects of my life that are definitely lacking in the mornings. For that reason, I love to have windows in my bathroom to access natural light. Additionally, many vanities available look even better in natural light.

Check out some vanity options you should consider while you’re making some bathroom design changes. But here’s the issue, how can you embrace the natural light from windows in your bathroom and also maintain privacy? The trick is finding the perfect window treatment for your bathroom. Not everyone is lucky enough to have privacy buffers outside their bathroom windows. With the rise of apartment and condo rentals/purchases, many people have less space than ever before.

Luckily, there are a bunch of window treatment options for maintaining privacy and still having access to a natural light source. We put together some ideas and inspiration for you to make the most of your bathroom windows. Check out some of these relatively cheap and easy window treatments.

Shutters

Shutters are a great option because of their versatility. Plantation shutters on your bathroom windows allow you to control the amount of light being let into the bathroom. If you really don’t need the privacy and want to maximize the amount of natural light you’re letting in, leave them all the way open! If you’re getting ready and don’t need the whole world looking into your bathroom, you’re able to lower them so no one can see in, but you can still take advantage of the natural light. Finally, if you need privacy and it’s just way too early to have a lot of light in your bathroom, you can shut them all the way!

Another benefit of using shutters is the hygiene factor. The maintenance is low because they’re so easy to clean. All you have to do is a grab a damp rag to wipe down the slats of the shutters. Problem solved! For people who like to shower/use the bathroom with the windows open, shutters are once again a great option. Blinds and curtains have a tendency to blow around when the windows are open. Since shutters are solid wood and affixed to the window frame, there’s no movement at all.

Etched Glass

Etched glass options are fun because of the customization options that you have. There are so many different directions you could go with etched glass. They can be used for bathroom windows, but also for your shower if you have glass walls. Many companies will offer you the option to explain what you want and customize your windows or walls as well. Of course, privacy is a huge positive. The etched/frosted glass allows plenty of natural light to come in while still providing as much privacy as any of the other options available.

Glass Blocks

Not only are glass blocks a cool design choice, but they also have a bunch of cool features that aren’t as common in normal window treatments. The first notable benefit is their insulating ability. They’re comparable to thermal pane windows when it comes to insulating and twice as efficient as single pane windows. If you’re concerned about security, these are an excellent choice as well.

Glass blocks are two hollow rectangular halves of glass that are fused together to create an airtight block. This double layer of glass means they’re much harder to break than your standard window. As a window treatment option, these are great because they let in a lot of natural light while still providing privacy because of the distortion from the glass. Overall, if you’re looking for a safe, energy efficient window treatment, this might be the option for you.

Stained Glass

Stained glass is a cool window treatment option if you want to add your own personal flair to your home. A lot of times, having stained glass windows in your home can actually increase the value. For bathrooms, we recommend going with lighter colors in the stained glass design to maximize the natural light that will enter the room. As with all the window treatments we’ve recommended, stained glass provides a solid amount of privacy. As a side note, clear stained glass is an option if you don’t want a bunch of different bright colors in your bathroom!

Shades

Last but not least, shades! Shades are probably the easiest and cheapest window treatment option available. They’re super easy to install and aren’t nearly as permanent as some of the other options available. It’s easy to switch between complete privacy with the shades down and also being able to enjoy the natural light and views by putting them up!
