A local couple had their dream vacation turned into a holiday from hell after falling ill with gastroenteritis – to the point they had to be placed on a drip.
Carol and Brian Gregory, from Tottington were looking forward to their trip after having to cancel their previous one when Carol was suffering from breast cancer. The recent trip was supposed to be a final marker of their pair’s health and freedom to finally go away on holiday.
But their dream was turned into a nightmare when the nasty vomiting bug took hold during their trip to the Egyptian beach resort in Hurghada.
The Bury Times reported how, instead of celebrating Carol’s good health, they were both left seriously ill in hospital – and that Brian needed surgery to reduce the size of his prostate, which had become enlarged due to a virus.
Carol, 68, told the newspaper: “We never stopped thinking about our dream holiday and when we saw an offer online, we booked it. It turned out to be the worst thing we did. It was an absolute nightmare.”
