Any new survey conducted by Democracy Corps between July 21 and July 25 found that the number of Americans who believe that the country is headed in the wrong direction has fallen slightly of late, although the majority still believe Mr. Obama‘s economic policies are not in the best interests of in the nation.

The data reveals that 58 percent of those questioned are convinced that the country is headed on the wrong track, while 36 percent feel that it is headed in the right direction. However, 50 percent of the participants approve of the way Mr. Obama is handling his job as president, while 46 percent disapprove.

When asked who they would vote for were the presidential election held today, 48 percent of those interviewed indicated that they would cast a vote for Mr. Obama, whereas 44 percent stated that presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney was their favorite candidate. Thirty-eight percent of the respondents described themselves as either strong Democrats (26 percent) or weak Democrats (12 percent). Thirty-three percent told the pollsters that they were either strong Republicans (22 percent) or weak Republicans (11 percent).
The survey also revealed that, back in 2008, 50 percent of those who took part in the recent poll cast a ballot for Mr. Obama. Forty-one percent, however, chose to support Senator John McCain of Arizona.
A total of 700 individuals participated in the polling exercise. Forty-seven percent were male and 53 percent were female. Seventy-five percent described themselves as White, 12 percent as African- American or Black, nine percent as Hispanic or Latinos. Fifty-six percent were aged over 45, while 43 percent were aged between 18 and 44.
