Collection Antique Rose – Lasting Gel Colour

I started with a base of L’Oreal 7 in 1 Saviour La Manicure. Collection Antique Rose is a beautiful, neutral pink creme that is subdued enough to give it that vintage edge.

Collection Antique Rose is from Collection’s Lasting Gel Colour range, which they say, “Long lasting, gel like shine nail polish that locks in color. The gel technology gives that high shine finish, providing a protective layer so no need for a top coat.”

Now the first thing I want to mention is the size of the brush. For some people, the fact that it is a wide and flat brush is probably great news. Brands tend to opt for a flat and wide brush to provide us with greater control and to make it easier to paint our nails.

However for those of us with rather small nails, it ain’t no good! I hate hate wide brushes.

Unlike a regular brush, they tend to have somewhat of a square end, and as my cuticle beds are mostly round it makes it a little tricky to paint neatly.

I also find it easier to paint my nails well with the ‘standard’ three stripe technique, which is impossible to do with a wide and flat brush without badly overlapping the strokes, it ain’t no good!

The bottle on the other hand is a great size at 12ml for just over £3.

However the Collection Antique Rose ‘Lasting Gel Colour’ formula isn’t anything special. It does even out somewhat as it dries, and ridges appear more filled in than with some other nail polishes. I’m afraid I can’t report on it’s lastingness durability however as I only wore it for one day.

I found that because of my issues with the wide brush, I was badly overlapping stripes, and resulting in an uneven coat.

If you can manage to paint your nails neatly with this brush, I reckon you could get away with 2 or 3 coats – but I must have done anywhere between 3-5 on some nails.

Oh I also forgot to mention the dry time is sloooooow! I think it’s because of how thick the formula is, but still – annoying.

I finished it with a coat of Seche Vite Fast in the end, just to make sure there were no smudges, but somehow managed it anyway?!

Collection Antique Rose – Neutral Nail Polish

All in all this Collection Antique Rose is a stunning colour, and once you’ve managed to get a uniform coat and cleaned up all the dogears, it does looks gorgeous. Collection Antique Rose isn’t going to break the bank, but I personally would of rather have spent more on a better quality nail polish, which didn’t cause as much stress in the application process!
