Coffee Talk- Life at 35

By Saumya Shiohare @myriadmusings1
It's almost Friday evening and I couldn't be any happier, not coz I get to chug a drink or two, but coz I get to sleep a few extra hours tomorrow..haha, gotcha! Believe it or not, besides this not-the-same-Friday-fervor, a lot has changed ever since I entered my thirties. From the diaper bag graduation to eating and partying habits, to the approach towards life and family- everything has undergone a change for good! Not that I would ask for it any other way, but there are certain things and lifestyle changes, which I would have enjoyed the way it was in my twenties. However life is a continuous change and adapting to those changes as you mature is lifestyle, so I won't sulk.
Let's see how much of my changes that follow do you relate to!!!!

LIFE/LIFESTYLE  CHANGES
  • Married, mom, blogger, property-manager, home and mortgage owner, cook, housemaid- so many roles I gotta play and people I gotta shoulder. In am happy and enjoying all of it.
  • Life is busy with a first-grader in tow, so much to learn, so much to teach- learning and exploration still continue.
  • There is so much routine and structure day after day every day, which I kind of enjoy but sometimes I just want to let things go and loosen up- hard but we all need it.
  • Gone are those 8 hours beauty-sleep days, 8 days of 6 hours slept in a fortnight and I would consider myself lucky.
  • There are fewer weekend parties or no late-partying and no bar-top dancing anymore. We would rather hang in with Ribhya and enjoy our Friday movie-nights with take-out food.
  • Weekends are busier than ever, with just two days to finish the weeklong pending work, Saturdays and Sundays are choc-a-blocked. By chance, if there is not much to do over these days, there is that  'something is missing' feeling looming.
  • Talk to me about the laundry days, which I entirely, completely 100% dread coz my love-hate relationship with this chore continues. This one hasn't changed much. There are times when I have to fold multiple days of double-load laundry. But life goes on and I still struggle to iron my clothes before office.

PERSONAL CHANGES
  • Personally, I feel at 35 I am more responsible, wiser and decisive about home, finance, and everything in between issues. We have our IRA, retirement, Ribhya's college fund, health and life insurance all lined up- thanks to hubs for taking care of it.
  • I am much more in control of my anger and wit- thanks to motherhood, it does teach you lots of patience and art of perseverance.
  • After 30 your family is your priority and you want to be a role model for your children. So how you talk, you present yourself, you carry yourself,, everything matters- both for your personal self and your children.

PHYSICAL CHANGES
  • My body is a lot different from what it was in the twenties. My energy level is low, healing time is more and girl talk to me about the aches and pains that visit me like no body's business!
  • My food habits have changed drastically. The concentration has now shifted from high-carb to low-carb, low-sugar and high-protein diet. One's calories intake should vary inversely with your age- so as you age your calorie count should lower.
  • Whoever said this knew the rules of the age game and said it right that gaining weight after 30 is much-much easier losing weight. I guess it's your slowing metabolism that contributes to this weight issues.
  • Psychologically, I am more sensitive and emotional. I am mentally and emotionally sorted out and maybe that is the reason when things don't go as planned, it upsets me.

  • In your thirties, you are well-established both career-wise and financially and your sartorial choices are undeniably determined by your job position. I would rather invest in classics that would go a long way versus all those cheap trendy finds which were my thrills in my twenties.
  • In my twenties, there was more contemplation when an expensive purchase was involved, but in my thirties, I exactly know what I want and need and buy without too much deliberation.
  • My fetish for shoes is not hidden from the world, but my choice of shoes is still a mystery for everyone. There are certain shoes in my closet that are entirely for blogging purposes only, coz in real life those shoes are not meant for walking. I can't wear high stilettos for a stretch coz my back starts hurting and my shoulder feels strained- thanks to thirties!
  • I really wanted to emphasize this one coz ever since my interest in fashion bloomed, the fashion rule " NO MINI SKIRTS AFTER 35 " has been imprinted on my brain. Not clear as to how short would be considered short, but I might just adopt this one, coz for the past couple of years I haven't been comfortable wearing too short-short of a skirt. Anything past mid-thigh I'm okay with, but anything shorter and I find it inappropriate. I guess my setting-the-right-example motherly instincts have taken over already.
