I own a million pairs in my dream closet ( all pun intended ), and what worries me more is not the number of pairs I own, but " how do I take care of my priced procession for it to last as long as I live?" Well, a few months ago I was at an event where the professionals spoke all about clothing and shoe-care and I was thrilled to learn that shoe-care was easier than I had thought- I was just procrastinating about nothing all this while.
- The number one rule towards efficient shoe-care is buying the right shoe size- when the shoe fits right, wear and tear will be less and the shoes will keep it's shape.

- Always stow your expensive shoes in dust bags or in their original boxes, in case you are not displaying them on a shelf. This will provide extra protection to the outside of the shoe and retain the look and charm of the exterior material.
- Always leave your shoes to air-dry before stowing them away.
- After every use clean the inside of your shoes with a soft cloth to absorb any sweat or moistness. This will avoid smell insoles in future.
- Spray your new shoes with a waterproof protector like this one. You can use pretty much the same spray that you use for your handbags.
- Sneakers require the least amount of maintenance. These can be easily washed in the washing machine using your regular laundry detergent and then either air-dried or thrown in the dryer to dry.
- When it comes to leather shoes, use a leather conditioner every few months. This will keep the shine and look intact. Polish your leather shoes often to keep the exterior looking fresh and neat.
- Suede shoes need some extra care. When new pretreat them with a suede-protecting spray like this one. Suede tends to scuff easily but those scuff marks can be easily removed with a kneadable eraser. In case of a wet stain, use talcum powder to absorb it: let it dry overnight, then brush off excess. For dryer stains just scrape them off with a sand paper- apply gentle pressure.
- Use shoe trees to retain the shape of shoes with taller shafts like your boots. These ones are truly the best I have used so far.
