Their once definitive freak folk label is almost a thing of the past on CocoRosie’s latest track, the prog-poppy “Gravediggress.” The sisters have been maneuvering in and out of a more electronic sound for a while now, and “Gravediggress” manages to subtly reference their weird American roots without totally abandoning its popier texture. “Gravediggress” combines eastern-tinged, theatrical sounding melodies with the sisters’ regular “sing like a baby” cooing vocals. A nice return to form for CocoRosie, “Gravediggress” should also serve as a rather accessible introduction to anyone unfamiliar with the group.
