A month after my amazing trip to Trinidad and Tobago and I am definitely missing the warm beaches, HOT weather and sunshine! Luckily the sun is shining today but oh what I wouldn’t give for perfect layer-less weather!Last week’s Throwback Thursday post was my transition story and how I have finally arrived at the full curly, wash and go look I imagined when this all began! So with that back story, it is also important to note, in the search for the perfect product, I have found less is so much more for my hair. Well… in Trinidad… things changed and it was a fantastic discovery! (I’m sure you are shaking your head thinking… duh… that’s why we use products!)
Coconut oil was my friend! When I am home in BK, I only use coconut oil in the prewash phase. Most often, I don’t add any product to my hair after washing or I use a bit of Deva Curl Styling Creme. I have found this is the best way to get the poofiness I enjoy with my hair. First wash in Trinidad and the same shrinkage from Mexico was trying to happen. It is funny because this doesn’t even happen in Louisiana! I also realized I left my coconut oil at home.
But… where there is a will, there is a way (and I was on an island… coconut oil shouldn’t be hard to find!). In the kitchen of the bed and breakfast where we were staying, I saw a huge container of coconut oil. I asked the owner if I could have some and then I had to figure out how I would store it! I love when coconut oil is in the liquid form but I needed a good container. Enter a little bottle of mouthwash… perfect!
The coconut oil combined with my usual Deva Curl No Poo and Styling Cream and Cantu Conditioner helped the curlsfind great definition. This was the best definition I had experienced since I cut it in October. I was giddy about the curl definition and of course took a million pictures. I really do believe the camera phone was the best invention for curly girls going through transition!
It was a great hair trip as well as an overall delightful vacation. Just a recent throwback thursday but still a happy one!
Cheers to hair happiness! xoxo- Kellie
