Clothespin Candle Holder – DIY

By Tasneem Rajkotwala @tasu0704

Ever since I saw a candle holder made from clothespins, there was something really classic about it that caught my eye. It is really a smart idea and nothing is better than recycling stuff while it also give some beauty to your abode. You’ll know you are a sucker for all things waste when you start collecting tiny bits of tins, cardboards, frills, etc from lying around the house to borrowing it from anywhere. I have a rather bad habit of saving all the boxes and containers that come along with the curd, cream and ice-cream. There is a drawer in my kitchen specifically dedicated for these items; most of them which get thrown away after a period of time if I haven’t racked my brains enough to put them to alternate use. After using up a good 100 gms cheese from a small little tin, I knew then what I had to do with it. Somehow, it took me almost a month to sit down for this very simple DIY! Hardest and lame excuse had been – that I never had wooden clothespins in the house. Alas, I picked up a packet of those today while shopping for grocery at the supermarket and spotted them just accidentally. My life is weird like this – things happen when I least expect them to. It can be made to suit any style – either keep it simple or decorate according to your mood or season. I made this today morning and was very excited to put it up on the blog, hence didn’t put together extra stuff to make it look fancy. I guess I will be decorating with some flowers or use up some of the last year’s christmas decor.

I couldn’t believe how good-looking something so easy and inexpensive could be – a tin can which would otherwise be thrown away, a packet of clothespins which was bought for as less as 2.5 dhs and a tea-light candle from a pack of 36 candles for 15 dhs bought during a sale.

So, all you need is a small (or any size you prefer) used tin can (washed and dried) with the top part fully open, several wooden clothespins (or pegs) and a tea-light candle (scented or not). Just clip the clothespins encircling the rim of the can and place the candle inside. Tada! Your charming and trendy accent piece is ready for display.
