Dessert recipes have to be simple to make, or you won’t find them on my menu. I’m more of a cook, than a baker. Dessert making requires precision, and I love to wing it in the kitchen.
Since you can find an endless varieties of apples (with Fuji being this family’s choice), they make the best desserts if you ask me. They’re available year around, and you add them to almost any treat. They work equally well in pies, cakes, cookies, and crumbles.
Most importantly, everyone loves them, so you can’t go wrong.
I’m a fan of fruit crumbles myself. This berry crumble tops my list since all I have to do is plop juicy berries into a baking dish, then sprinkle them with a mixture of sugar and oats.
In less than 30 minutes, my kitchen smells heavenly, and I have dessert on the table.
On this particular day I had a basket full of apples a girlfriend gave me, and a box of cinnamon and sugar graham crackers the nephews turned down on their last visit to Auntie’s house.Craving something sweet, I decided to turn my apples into a variation of my berry crumble.
I crushed my graham crackers into tiny bits, combined them with butter, then patted the mixture into the bottom of a baking dish to make a base for the sliced apples. No need for added sugar, the crackers are sweet enough on their own.
We topped those freshly picked apples with a crumble of graham crackers and chopped walnuts, then popped our dessert into the oven for a bake.
As I said, dessert recipes have to be simple, or they don’t end up on my table, and wasn’t this easy? The hardest task was peeling the apples, and I left that chore to Mr. Mike to accomplish while he watched his football game. Not a bad deal for me, right?

Ingredients
- 3 cups Cinnamon and Sugar Graham Crackers, crushed
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon low fat milk
- 8 cups apples , peeled, cored and sliced
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ⅓ cup sugar
- ⅛ cups flour
- ¾ cup walnuts, pieces
Instructions
- reheat the oven to 375 degrees. Spray a 13 x 9 x 2 inches baking pan with cooking spray.
- Combine 2 cups graham cracker crumbs in a bowl with melted butter and milk.
- Press cracker crumbs into the baking dish.
- In a large bowl add apples, sugar, cinnamon and flour.
- Top with apples and press mixture down into the pan.
- Top with remaining 1 cup cracker crumbs and walnuts.
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour until apples are just tender.
- Remove foil and bake another 15 minutes.
