Happy Cinco de Mayo! I love May – really, it brings so many opportunities for great food, delicious cocktails, and one last whoosh of social celebrations before the season dies down (in Boca Raton) or starts winding up (in Chicago.) Between the Kentucky Derby, Cinco, Memorial Day, and the bevy of birthdays I love to celebrate this month, May truly is one of my favorites. And that’s before we even discuss May’s birthstone, emerald!
So today, in honor of Cinco de Mayo, and the verdant green stripe on the Mexican flag, I’m celebrating with plenty of green- emeralds, margaritas, cilantro, and more. My best friend and I were lamenting this morning, like we usually do, that we don’t live next door to each other or have a secret tunnel connecting our kitchens. It’s a teenage dream we never grew out of. And on festive holidays like this that involve some of our favorite things (cooking big meals, drinking tequila, and wearing off the shoulder tops) the distance between us feels even greater. We like to overcome this by “twinning” it up as obnoxiously as possible, via our meal plans or outfits. Hate on, haters. Or you can join in the fun and check out the menu she put together, the cocktail I’ll be mixing up, and the jewels & fashion we both want righthisinstant.

First, a toast. Ginger Margaritas are a spicy twist, and with natural sweetener they free up calories and macronutrients for the indulgences below.

And what do you wear when you’ll be eating an entire day’s worth of calories in one meal? LOOSE BLOUSES! Always! And Caitlin at Southern Curls and Pearls always puts together the cutest and inexpensive outfits. I love this Topshop blouse (and the jeans, wedges, bag, etc. etc.)
