It would be really hard to think of a scenario where you could really resurrect the atmosphere and the tones and the playfulness of True Blood for its own sake. If they called me and said we’re gonna shoot something and everybody is gonna show up on this day, I would be there early.
But in terms of the audience, I feel like it would be hard to come up with a reason to tell those stories again. Bottom line is, if you throw a party, I will be there!
But what of the popularity of True Blood? What does Chris think was the reason behind the show’s success? He attributes the show’s longevity to the fact that living forever and the allure of sex were ever present topics. However, he thinks the main appeal was the fact that it never took itself too seriously – even when tackling serious undercurrent topics:
You can never discount how fun it was to watch True Blood. On a pop culture level, it had a lot to enjoy, it was like the candy drawer. You can put your hand in and pull out something that tastes good, no matter what. Then it had the fundamental myth, which is the struggle of life and death, and in the face of death, what do we have available to us as a consolation?
