China Cabinet Before and After: Milk Paint Transformation

Sometimes you find an old piece of furniture that just needs a little love and paint to freshen it up. Sometimes you have to deconstruct in order to reconstruct. Case in point….

This 70′s china cabinet wasn’t much of a looker at first. But I had a vision of it in all white. Not sure what the deal was with this gold backing but I did love that it was a planked look. So white just seemed a good option.

ol blueI painted the edges of this piece in a little Ol’ Blue. I wanted some of that blue to pop through the white when this piece was distressed. I just painted around the edges though, not the whole thing. I promise the color in the pick really is Ol’ Blue, a lovely grayish blue color, but it looks white in this pic.

Here it is after 3 coats of Sweet Pickins Milk Paint in Window Pane. It’s my favorite white shade with just a touch of gray. It’s been sanded and distressed and I really thought this piece was done. But something about it just kept bothering me. It just didn’t have that rustic feel that I was going for. I finally realized that it was those darn 70′s doors on the bottom. As soon as I removed them I felt a sigh of relief coming on! It looked so much better. I found a basket at Marshalls on clearance to fill the space and I think the end result on this china cabinet flip is perfect.
