Chicken Lettuce Wraps

By Tasneem Rajkotwala @tasu0704

No real recipe here. But something I had to create when I was craving for lettuce wraps one evening after having them on several occasions at popular Chinese restaurants around the city. I looked over and asked people I trust for the recipe of sauce that would perfectly string along but couldn’t get any that I was remotely satisfied with. Then, at the moment I decided to put together different sauces available in my pantry with brown sugar and that is it. It has been my go to recipe since then and that is what I would love to share here today. I can’t think beyond lettuce wraps when I think of more rustic and fresh appetizer to serve anytime during the year. And this also comes as a cheat dish when you are feeling guilty of putting in too many calories. Just a few of these for a dinner or lunch will keep you feeling light all throught till the next meal. What more if I tell you these are simple, quick and tasty? If you are still not convinced, it also makes for outstanding crowd pleaser at parties and leftovers serve as a fantastic light meal next day.

Lettuce wraps are very versatile to create, so don’t fret if you don’t have the exact same ingredients in your pantry. You can choose any type of filling you wish -try a combination of peppers, mushrooms, veggies, sausages etc and still make something that everyone on the table are more than happy to put together. Also, when preparing asian dishes, I have realised the importance of mustard oil than regular non flavored oil since it has a soild smell and pungent after taste.  .
