Chic Eyewear for 2013

By Wildchildmedia @wildchildmedia

Eyewear is a fun, unique way to change your look without having to switch up your wardrobe. For years, fashion-forward individuals have been using eyeglasses to create a variety of diverse looks. Sunglasses are also staples in any fashionista’s ensemble, and this year’s sunnies are even cooler than they were in previous seasons. From retro frames to mod, futuristic- looking glasses, eyewear has become just as important as handbags, shoes, and other major accessories.

Finding eyewear that is stylish, comfortable, and suitable for your face, and eyes, can be tricky. While you may want to sport the square, black frame glasses (think Ray Ban) that everyone seems to be wearing lately, these frames may not look right on you or may be incompatible with your prescription lenses. Not to fret, there are a number of nifty glasses out there that will match your style and look good on you. Here are a few frames that are hits among today’s trendsetters.

Pay Homage to Your Inner Geek

Nerdy glasses have been popular for a few years now, and this trend doesn’t seem to be going anywhere any time soon. Everyone from actors like Johnny Depp and athletes such as David Beckham have been spotted wearing sweet, dorky frames. Though these glasses complement the stylish librarian look you you’re going for or add to your hipster image, these old-school frames aren’t for everyone. Before you invest in a pair of nerdy glasses with prescription frames, be sure that they agree with the shape of your face and are appropriate for your prescription. (Remember: the higher the prescription, the smaller the frames.) If you like the style, but don’t want to spend a lot of money on expensive frames that you may grow weary of in a few years, purchase a cheaper, non-prescription pair that you can wear with your Acuvue contact lenses.

Don’t Be Such a Square

While square-framed glasses have dominated the fashion world recently, eyewear designers are trying out new shapes for glasses in 2013. Much like their boxy counterparts, round specs are a throwback that look both studious and sharp. Whether they be sunnies similar to those worn by the late John Lennon or tortoise shell eyeglasses that a professor from the 1950′s might don, round glasses are quickly catching on as a prominent trend in eyewear. These spectacles are also superb for those with a high prescription.

Clever Shades

Like their tinted counterparts, sunglasses are getting the classic Hollywood treatment with designers creating hip, vintage-inspired eyewear with an edgy, modern twist. Though we may have yet another season full of wayfarers, new, avant-garde shades are making their way onto the faces of today’s trendsetters. Similar to seasons past, the frame colours of 2013 are defiant and audacious. Unlike the brightly-coloured sunnies from last summer, this season’s new sunglasses come in low-key colours, such as deep red or navy, and classic patterns. With fresh styles like these, you’ll be rocking sunnies day or night, rain or shine.
