A question on which I was pondering upon today was “Which is better? Phone calls or chatting?”For the moment I prefer chatting because:
1. Come on! It’s the latest and quickest mode of communication these days. And it’s free! Sure- some might complain that one has to pay for internet to chat: but everyone has an internet connection these days right?
It also comes down to the fact that even when one is shifting from one place to another- you can still send messages to your old friends (because some people just love to ignore calls from unknown numbers!)
2. Emotions. Yes, you read it correct, emotions. One can easily come to know how the person on the end of the line is feeling just by hearing their voice. If a person is on the verge of tears, one can come to know from the heavy-ness in their voice or just by hearing them sigh. Whereas, on chat, one can hide the emotions. Now, if one gets a call from a friend they don’t want to talk to when they are feeling low, they have no other option than to ignore. Now, in the same instance, if someone sends a message, we can easily hide our emotions.
This, is a win-win situation. Sure, we may be deceiving the person on the receiving end, but it’s a lot better than making them feel guilty for contacting us while we are low.
3. When one gives his/her phone number on sites and gets a call later from that site for some kind of vague offer- we feel as if we want to kill them, right? And in the same instance if we take the case of giving our email and then having a chat with them later: it is up to whether we want to ignore them or reply back to them. It might look like a bit rude, but it is better than getting spam calls.
In all, chatting is one thing which keeps us connected every day. The thought which comes to my mind on how chatting trumps over calling is when one sees the Quickr Nxt advertisement. It depicts on how the seller got a prank call on his items. Isn’t that what we do regularly? Dialling random numbers for making a prank call?
We don’t give a damn about privacy. I remember a time when I was looking for an iPhone for my dad. I called someone who was selling his iPhone for mere 5k bucks. When I called them, it turned out that the man’s neighbor had uploaded his bio-data for a prank. That’s when I thought that chatting would be a better option for quickr. And Voila! Quickr has introduced that app. Hope their sales go much more convenient now!
