One of my ultimate style icons is Patti Smith - perfectly imperfect androgyny personified. She rocks menswear better than most dudes - just as her longtime admirer John Varvatos told me in an interview - but unlike La Jolie or Madge, she does so unironically and - I'll say it - unsexily. Her sense of style, like her sense of self, is completely natural and uncontrived - not something schemed up in a Hollywood office, but rather thrown together in a Chelsea hotel. With that spirit in mind, I channeled a little bit of Patti Smith - with just a hint of the equally "IDGAF" Kate Moss - with a tuxedo-inspired jumpsuit and a faux-fur vest and felt cowboy hat to go kick around in the backstreets of town.
