For Marino, research is key when trying to encapsulate the essence of a label. The Chanel store in New Bond Street  is across three floors of 12,600 square metres shopping space. The three storey store opens  up to display the “the universe created by Karl Lagerfeld”. It will also stock all that well-heeled divas and best-dressed men crave for – haute couture collections, ready-to-wear outfits, leather accessories, fine jewelry as well as latest beauty products.

The ground floor houses timeless and classic pieces while the collection-specific products are elevated to the first and second floors. The focus of the store is on Chanel accessories, including scarves, belts and men’s ties and will also boast a full range of Chanel products such as ready-to-wear items, fine jewelry and cosmetics.

Perhaps the stand-out feature is the Jean-Michel Othoniel sculpture made from hand-blown Venetian glass. Inspired by the strands of Coco Chanel’s iconic pearls, it distinctly appears to be suspended from ceiling and stands out as the store’s centerpiece. More striking features of the new store are – artworks commissioned by Marino, gold ribbon encased within glass and mirrored walls, pearls studded curtains, chandeliers made from real crystals, tweed chairs, dedicated walls for scarves, belts and ties as well as the popular handbag bar.

Chanel hopes that the London  Chanel emporium will strengthen the brand’s “special relationship” with Britain.  The label’s link with the UK goes a long way? back - Coco Chanel was an ardent lover of the UK – especially Scotland, the location for Chanel’s Metiers d’Arts show. It was the success of the label’s Little Black Jacket exhibition, staged at the Saatchi Gallery, that gave way to  more recent indication that the British are as addicted to Chanel as their French counterparts.

The visitors as well as shoppers need to watch out for the boutique’s gravity-defying staircases. Thanks to the out-of-sight underlying support, they appear to be floating in the air. Whatever you want you can find it at Chanel – whether a lipstick, a bag or a beautiful dress – and that’s exactly what Chanel wants customers to feel,  to feel comfortable; to feel good when they walk inside.  Chanels jobis to continue to seduce their customers – that’s important.

Just to keep you interested:  The world’s most expensive retail location is currently Causeway Bay in Hong Kong, where rents rose 34.9 percent in the year through June 2012 to $2,630 a square foot, Cushman & Wakefield said in a November report. That put the area ahead of New York’s Fifth Avenue at $2,500 a square foot. The broker ranked New Bond Street, the northern half of the strip extending to Oxford Street, sixth at $936 a square foot. It didn’t rank Bond Street as a whole
