Cellular phone services banned in Karachi, Quetta

Cellular phone services in Karachi and Quetta have been suspended on the orders of the federal interior ministry.

The services will remain suspended until 7.00 pm in wake of security concerns on the first Muharram. The people of both cities are facing problems in communication due to the suspension of cellular services.

On Thursday, Federal Minister Rehman Malik had also ordered to ban the motorcycle riding in both cities citing he had intelligence reports that terrorists are planning to mount strikes using motorcycles but Sindh High Court (SHC) quashed the order hours later after which the motorcycle riding was restored in Karachi.

However, in Quetta, motorcycle riding still remained banned and police have arrested scores of violators of the ban. It is pertinent to mention that there are about 0.12 million registered motorcycles in Baluchistan capital.
