Karen Black lends her beautifully plain voice to Cass McCombs upcoming double album, Big Wheel And Others on “Brighter!”. Considering the actress and superstar’s recent death, the song carries with it an extra heavy dose of wistfulness. Cass McCombs’ dry and witty lyrics see a new life with Karen Black’s delivery, the oddly cheery adjective “brighter” couldn’t be darker in another context. Her old-fashioned country ad-libs at the end of the track sound classically beautiful and though out of place, the uninhibited nature of them cast a lovely shadow to the outro of the song.
After lending her vocal talent to a few TDE stars, including Schoolboy Q’s “Sex Drive”, Jhene Aiko has been putting her efforts to establishing herself as a solo artist. Here’s a subdued pop song featuring a verse by Childish Gambino.
