With all the high-profile competition in the delivery services field, a company like Alpha Delivery Services prides itself on its professionalism, efficiency and customer service. Covering a 500-mile radius, including parts of Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky, Alpha’s “on time, anytime” motto illustrates their dedication to making their clients’ lives easier with same-day service.

Naturally, rising fuel costs were of concern to company owner Laurie Bushouse. To get a better handle on expenses, she began looking into fleet management systems. “I didn’t know where my drivers were, and it just made sense to know, to dispatch better and to monitor idling,” she says.

Research into the options on the market led her to FleetMatics, who came out to Alpha Delivery to demonstrate their unique GPS tracking system. “We were convinced after talking to a sales person,” says Bushouse. So much so that the Alpha Delivery website prominently touts the satellite tracking installed in all of their vehicles as a benefit to clients. “It gives us a legitimacy that a lot of companies don’t have. We remain competitive because of the tools that FleetMatics gives us.”

Because the drivers know their vehicles are being monitored, “they can’t be idling, and they make sure they are locking their vehicles,” says Bushouse. “We had one driver who was bad about locking his truck at rest stops. He was leaving our clients’ products and our truck open to theft. He was also leaving the vehicle running so it was wasting fuel.”
