Cars and I Don’t Always Play Nicely. A Confession.

By Yourfamilysurvivalcoach @shari_brewer

It’s all fun and games now that my Big Boy is a learner driver. Not so long ago it seems he was a learner walker, and the world really did seem a safer place back then.

You see, I’m terrified that he may have inherited my crap-automobile-management genes, and if so this may not actually stand him in good stead. The good news is that I’ve never been in a serious traffic accident (touch wood, thank God and praise the skill of other drivers, quite possibly) but I must confess that I’ve had my share of behind the wheel fails. Not alone, am I? Surely …

Like ….. how I failed my first driving exam … in an automatic car ….. because I hit an overhanging tree branch … yes I was driving that close to the gutter and yes the tester asked me to turn around and head directly back to the center without finishing the test …. hey, second time, no problem ;)

And …. how a minor disagreement with a fence led me to bump the driver’s side mirror off my little Eddie-Escort. Then said side mirror sat on the passenger seat for months …. until the rear vision mirror was knocked off and joined it. Note to self – never try to cram too many college mates into a 2 door Escort. No good will come of it. Fail.

Then there’s the taillight that lost it’s battle with the parked trailer ….. Fail.

Add to the list being followed home by police from after school pick up and booked for driving an unregistered vehicle because during the trauma of a marriage breakup I can reveal that changing mailing address with the Dept of Transport is not a priority … when possibly it should be …. well that’s if you want to receive the renewal paperwork. Fail. Expensive fail.

When traveling with your father (or anyone for that matter), I recommend not driving your car off the road into the side of a hill. A tow truck will be required,  you will be without a car for a week and the shame will last much longer. Fail.

Cars and I don’t always play nicely. A confession.

And this is NOT my car!

I’m choosing to end my list there but please agree that you now see my dilemma, yes? How to instruct the Big Boy behind the wheel, in all things driving, whilst maintaining the fairy tale that I’m actually not too bad at it??? How faultless is your driving? Wanna come and teach my lad the ropes??

I’m linking this up with Kirsty at My Home Truths this week and keeping fingers tightly crossed that there are others with similar vehicular takes to tell. Something to confess? Join in there because it’’s always great to get something off your chest!
