It's mad how time flies, isn't it? Yet another year has passed and carpe carmina hopefully is, to this very day, a place for you to come back and find music to cherish and shout about. A place to connect to unheard melodies, to learn more about the emotional and creative core of a composition and to let your mind wander and indulge in the sweet sound of novel music grace ... or just a place to find that one song you were looking for to complete your latest car or running mix. Whatever it is to you, I wholeheartedly hope carpe carmina has some kind of meaning to you, as it means quite a great deal to me. 4 years of being outspoken about the music that truly inspires and moves me, has been and still is a blessing, a wonderful and wondrous thing I've never imagined to be doing for so long. But there is good reason to, as there always is another beautiful song waiting to be found, waiting to resonate with you in an intimate and honest way. This is for you, for every musician whose work has reached and struck a chord with me, who made my heart leap for joy and my eyes fill with tears, who made me sing at the top of my lungs and hum a melody long after your songs ceased to play; and for you, who joined me in exploring the exciting and amazing world of indie music, who read and connected to my musings in ways only you know; without you all, carpe carmina would be a pretty bleak and empty place. Yet to celebrate that it is a place full of joy, pleasant anticipation and pleasing euphony, follow me once more and look forward to a month of exclusive performances for carpe carmina and its 4th anniversary. It's time again for 'carpe carmina celebrates'!
Back when carpe carmina turned 3 years old ...
... Courteous Thief, then a band of four still, were busy promoting their forthcoming album 'Beyond These Walls'; a video for one of the singles taken from the four-piece's 2nd full-length release, 'Once Burnt', was shot at Antwerp Mansion in Manchester and shortly after shared online, the song itself – stirring in both sound and story – got airplay on several radio stations in Wales. After announcing that Courteous Thief would be a solo-project from november on, lead-singer Gary Roberts performed acoustic sets at Gorjys Secrets Music Festival, Scruff Of The Neck Records' Pop-Up Winter Festival and just recently at Trakz Busking Festival, continued to successfully draw interest to his now acoustic-focused tracks, what mentions in lists such as Link 2 Wales' 'top 40 songs of 2016' and RKC's 'Top 500' as well as coming in 4th on Trafford Sound's 'top 25 tracks of 2016' prove. With a new EP, 'Tribal', on the go this year (it's set to be released on July 7 and to be launched at 3rdspace (The Great Orme Brewery) in Llandudno the same day) and a music video for heartfelt hymn 'Rest My Bones' filmed of late, there's gonna be even more emotionally gripping and atmospheric art for you to embrace.
Music well worth listening to ...
... 'cause it's rare to find literary marvel and absorbing melodiousness combined so effortlessly. A soulful warmth radiates from Gary's voice, invitingly mellow and passionately glowing at the same time, one that keeps you enthralled and soothes your soul for however long the song is lasting. Give it a try.
