Carmina Charm #16

Posted on the 30 August 2015 by Vanessa Holthausen @NessiHolt

carmina charm #16Do you know that our soul is composed of harmony?

- Leonardo DaVinci

It's harmony that your soul and mind embraces again when listening to music. As sound surrounds you, only some melodies firmly resonate with you, get an immediate emotional response - whilst their approach is a smooth and soft one, whilst they slowly, carefully but steadily cling to you, these melodies eventually grab you with an intensity and force that overwhelms, that fully absorbs and stirs. It's these very melodies that are in chime with your mind and soul, it's music that leaves an imprint on your being and mesmerizes ... music that charms

XXXIII. Lemonade Shiver

carmina charm #16

No One Sun (f.l.t.r.): Nick Moulden (bass), Jamie Hewson (guitar/vocals),
Nick Noone (lead vocals/guitar), Gary Faulkner (guitar/vocals) &
Craig Warburton (drums)

Energetic pop-rock outfit No One Sun can look back on performing top venues such as Manchester's renowned Night & Day Caféand The Enterprise in Camden, on being part of carpe carmina's very own live show in 2014 as well as on performing Headlander festival just recently; present-day the indie quintet have a stellar set of singles in store - one, 'Hey You', yet to be released and advertised by the band as rich in 'lush groove' - combining what made their debut album and subsequent EP such powerful and vibrant compilations: a vivid melodic pulse and soulfully glowing harmonies. After heart-achingly haunting 'Lyra' and thrillingly tingling 'Popping Sherbet', now 'Lemonade Shiver' pops up and radiates sunny vibes and spiritedly refreshing pep

As shiny beams of melodic briskness and brightness glimmer, it's time for us to put on our sunglasses and be carried away by the rousing and infectious sonic waves that cast up with feel-good pop-popsicle 'Lemonade Shiver'. Bracing and electrifyingly buoyant, No One Sun's summer anthem combines ardent vocal glamour with sparkling harmonies and dynamic rhythm. Vivacious drum drive, perky and peppy guitar swirls evoke an anthemic atmosphere that invites to take a break from everyday life and enjoy the highs of splendid weather, the invigorating moments of levity likewise. It's a clear blue sky indeed that awaits the five dedicated pop-rockers, as it's all set for them to captivate with yet another catchy tonal triumph ...

XXXIV.Wedding Band

carmina charm #16

Big Tooth: Joe Weightman, Tom Blake, George Crossland,
Adam Blake & Patrick Hann

BBC Introducing London, Radio Kaos Caribou and Ralph knew it all along (the latter, you might like to add, had a good nose and instinct for it): former duo, now five-piece alt-rock gang Big Tooth aim for something big with their suspensefully evolving and delightfully floating compositional design (rightfully, as their diverse and stirring repertoire of songs certifies). Got together earlier this year, the enthusiastic group of five performed all over london, been declared 'Best Unsigned Of British Music' in april and have released two EPs already, presenting a rich blend of beautiful harmonies and fuzzy, gripping guitar extravaganza
Compared to groovy and sassy 'Black Dress' or vivifying and melodiously dulcet 'Keith', 'Wedding Band' comes into picture more soulfully and dreamy. The atmospheric ballad is reminiscent of 'boyband charm', suave and mellifluous in style, merges blissfully layered melodies, vigorous drum reverb and cozily surging, eventually excitingly wavering guitar play, make musical demands by deploying graceful vocal sonority, emotionally luring and halcyon at once. Oh what wonderful joy this soothing song brings, so smooth and sweet, so light and languorous
