A nursing home in Carlisle has been praised by the care watchdog, the Care Quality Commission (CQC), in a recent inspection report.
After inspectors visited the Applegarth Nursing Home in an unannounced visit last July, a CQC report was released in which the home was praised for meeting six essential standards of care. These included:
1. Care and welfare of service users
2. Staffing
3. Meeting nutritional needs
4. Respecting and involving people who use services in their own care
5. Assessing and regularly monitoring the quality of the service provided
6. Supporting care workers
In addition, the Applegarth Nursing Home was praised for its staff, many of whom were very experienced and had specialist skills from advanced care training.
In the report, inspectors stated:
“People told us they were happy with the care and support they received, and observations during our visit evidenced those with limited verbal communication were happy and relaxed in their surroundings.
“We observed that people’s privacy and dignity were upheld and staff sought their views, wherever possible, to influence the care, treatment and support offered.
“The home was clean, tidy and well maintained and people living in Applegarth received the most appropriate care to meet their needs.”
