When I saw for the first time Capo Vaticano in Calabria, I thought that the greatest artistic expression of the nature is the immense variety of colors that we can hardly reproduce on canvas. I was wandering with my car and I stopped to look out from the terrace overlooking the sea. The immense landscape took my breath away: the people were swimming in that water so crystal clear that I could see the sea bottom from the hill where I was. So if you love the nature, the beaches and the beautiful views, you cannot miss to swim in this paradise. Capo Vaticano is located on what is called the Coast of the gods ( it is not a coincidence!), just in front of the Aeolian islands (other jewels to visit!). The only thing you need here is your mask, the sunscreen , a hat, a beach umbrella, your camera and the desire to have fun.

Capo Vaticano is famous from the ancient times: here the oracles predicted the future. In addition to being the seat of a famous harbor for trade during the Magna Grecia, nowadays you can visit a complex system of defense made by many towers – this was active in the sixteenth century. There not only the history, the nature and beautiful landscapes : here there is also a legend. It is said that a beautiful woman was kidnapped by the Saracens. She threw herself into the sea from the ship shouting she would have preferred the death to the dishonor. Unfortunately she died but the water at that point became an incredibly beautiful blue, similar to the colors of the veil of the woman. So when you hear the waves crashing it is said that the woman of the legend greets her house and her land. Now it's time to swim in these waters and to appreciate the magnificent flora and fauna of this corner of the world.

Quando vidi per la prima volta Capo Vaticano in Calabria, pensai fra me e me che una delle maggiori espressioni artistiche della natura è nell’immensa varietà di colori che è in grado di creare e che noi difficilmente riusciamo a riprodurre su tela. Ero in giro con la mia macchina e la fermai affacciandomi a quella terrazza a picco sul mare. Il paesaggio immenso mi tolse il fiato: le persone nuotavano in quell’acqua così cristallina che io stessa da quell’altura avrei potuto vedere il fondale. Quindi se siete amanti della natura, delle spiagge e dei bei panorami no dovete assolutamente perdere una nuotata in questo paradiso. Capo Vaticano non a caso si trova su quella che è chiamata la costa degli dei, proprio di fronte alle isole Eolie ( altri gioielli da visitare!). L’unica cosa che vi serve qui è la maschera, la crema solare, un cappellino, un ombrellone, la macchina fotografica e tanta voglia di divertirvi. Capo Vaticano è famoso dall’antichità: pare che qui i sacerdoti venissero a predire il futuro. Oltre ad essere la sede di un famoso porto per gli scambi commerciali al tempo della Magna Grecia, oggi giorno ha ancora i resti delle Torri che facevano parte di un sistema difensivo che raggiunse la massima efficienza nel XVI secolo. Storia natura e paesaggi splendidi ma non solo: questo luogo ha una leggenda. Si narra che una donna molto bella fosse catturata dai saraceni. Si gettò in mare dalla nave dei suoi rapitori gridando che avrebbe preferito la morte al disonore. Purtroppo morì ma la acque in quel punto divennero di un azzurro incredibilmente bello, analoghe ai colori del velo della donna. Così quando si sentono le onde infrangersi si narra che è la donna della leggenda che saluta la sua casa e la sua terra. Ora è tempo di tuffarsi in queste acque magnifiche e di apprezzare la flora e la fauna di questo angolo di mondo.
