Can Robots Harm People?

Posted on the 17 November 2011 by Vandanan @vandanan_m

Yet another day spent at home, I watched I, Robot. The movie is, I must say, very nice to watch. But at the end, the need to answer the question that had been in my head since the beginning of the movie becomes further enhanced. As I have said before, many a thing that Hollywood shows off just become a reality once in a while, but, is this true in the case of robots like V.I.K.I that is capable of triggering worldwide attacks on humans? Well, I will reply the question with a smile, and say that is never going to happen, anywhere in the future- this of course, has been confirmed by scientists.

Robots killing people? Not for years, at least.

Asimo

What, in the real world, would you compare with those robots like Sonny in the movie? Of course, it’s Asimo! However, I am perfectly happy in saying that Asimo is nowhere near to having emotions- in fact, after all these years, after countless number of people working, our so called majestic creation can barely walk without falling and hitting on the furniture, as Dr. Michio Kaku says. And as to machines with guns killing around a bunch of people, relax- artificial intelligence is nowhere close to do that- at least, for now.  As Dr. Michio Kaku said, we are now so proud to have a robot that has as much ‘intelligence’ as a cockroach-or, a retarded cockroach, to be precise. So, we need not worry about robots killing humans, and before artificial intelligence does cross the level of human intelligence, we will have plenty of time and warning, so as to restore it back to its original state.
