For the last in our series of guest posts, we’ve come full circle and gone back to the theme of cake decorating.
Starting with my DIY for Washi Tape Cake Bunting on our first birthday back at the end of September, we’ve covered just about everything you need to throw a very special party. From snacks, via drinks, to decoration ideas, gifts and thank you cards and even an extra special What You Sow party playlist.
So here is my super crafting friend, Emma of the fantastic Bets and Bobs to give you more ideas for cake decoration. Emma can often be found at craft fairs selling her lovely gifts and decorations. Here are the upcoming fairs that she will be exhibiting her creations at and you can find more information on the lovely things she makes on the Bets and Bobs website.
Thanks Emma for the adorable DIY post.
As we celebrate What You Sow’s birthday, it seems right that we talk cake!
I love typography just as much as I love cake, so it seemed natural for me to combine the two, which is why I started making personalised cake toppers. But if you don’t have a glue gun, you can still create some effective cake toppers too. I’ve put together a super simple step-by-step guide to help you create some!
If you’ve got a birthday coming up, or you just want your Christmas cake to look even more spectacular than normal, here’s how…
What you’ll need…
- Washi tape
- Cocktail sticks
- Scissors
1. Trim one end of your cocktail sticks
2. Cut a 3cm piece of Washi tape for each cocktail stick
3. Wrap each piece around the trimmed end of your cocktail sticks
4. Snip two diagonal lines out of the edge of the ‘flag’ you have created
And there you have it…simple!
If you’re handy with a glue gun, you can create any shape or style of cake topper! Here are some from Bets & Bobs to give you some inspiration. I’ve used hearts and stamps to create a personal touch. Photos credits to the ace Nova Wedding Photography.
With all this cake talk, here’s a round up of some local artist’s cake inspired creations…
1. Silk scarf from Rock Cakes
2. Christmas cake topper from Miss Sarah Cake
3. Dolly Mix cake necklace from Citrus Couture
4. Happy and sad cupcake broaches from Rock Cakes
