I’ve started an after school painting class, which is off to a great start. I can’t believe that I didn’t learn about tempera cake paints until earlier this year. They are about a thousand times easier and more economical to use than the liquid type. My sample painting uses Dick Blick Tempera Cakes.
1. Print a City Grid paper for each student. Working from the bottom up, draw the ground, then first floor, awning and top floor of the building. Add details and landscaping.
2. Trace the drawing with a black Sharpie marker.
3. Paint with tempera paints, taking care to add more water to the outside blue so that it is lighter than the rest of the painting.
