We are debating whether to go away on a cheap short breaks holiday this summer as six weeks is an incredible long time to keep the kids entertained and to be honest we have not had a family holiday for a few years now.

When I remember back to my own childhood, the one memory that stands out is our yearly holidays to Butlins.  I have the photo albums from when I was a young girl and most of them are from these holiday times. I am bouncing away on a trampoline in one photo dressed in some rather awful looking check dress, which my mom assures me was the height of fashion in the eighties.

I do recall going into a huge dining hall and Nan and I would sneak a few bread buns into her bag, to feed the ducks on the way back to the chalet we were staying in.

I do remember having a green Orville teddy which I am told I carried everywhere with me, my grandparents always come along on these holidays with us and grandad would always hide Orville, mom said I would scream hysterically. He even hung him over the side of the boat on the boat lake one day.

Butlins  these days does look so much different to what I remember. But I can not help but think it would be an amazing experience to be able to take my own children to a place I had visited at their ages and loved so much, you never know I may even get back on a trampoline.

The thing I love most about Butlins is once we are there, everything is within walking distance, as we don’t drive we need to have everything close by. From waking on a morning to going to bed the kids would be kept busy and entertained and as a mum that’s one of the most important aspect when planning a family holiday.

There actually seems to be too much to do and I wonder if a week would be long enough. I love the fairground idea and the swimming and water play fun fits in with the bigger kids for sure. That’s another issue we have, having 3 older kids and 3 younger kids, its difficult to find activities that all 6 kids will enjoy but Butlins seems to offer this.

I do think we would have a a great time at Butlins holiday parks and what looks even better is the various money saving deals they have available.

Have you been to Butlins? Would you recommend it to me as a family holiday?
