Busker Triple Cask Irish Whiskey Review

We’re kicking off a quick little Irish run with a new blended Irish on the market: Busker Triple Cask Irish Whiskey. While the entry of a new blend isn’t revolutionary, the fact that they’ve released all of the individual components as standalones, is.

The full name of this Busker whiskey is the Triple Cask Triple Smooth which is a reference to the three types of whiskey in the blend and the three types of casks used. The whiskeys inside are a the Busker grain whiskey, Busker single malt and the Busker single pot still which have been aged in a mix of ex-Bourbon, ex-Marsala and ex-Sherry casks.

We’ll be tasting all of these components over the course of the week, but right now we’re tasting the sum of all the parts. So let’s get to it.

Tasting Notes

EYE
Medium honey

NOSE
Honey, pears, marzipan, malty graham cracker, vanilla candy and a touch of oat cookies.

PALATE
Butterscotch, honey, pears, vanilla taffy, dried orchard fruit, malty graham and brown sugar with some oat cookies.

FINISH
Medium -> Malty, fruity and a touch oaky.

BALANCE, BODY and FEEL
Great balnace, med-light body and a light, almost watery, feel.

Busker Triple Cask Irish Whiskey – Final Thoughts and Score

There is a lightness and a brightness to this whiskey that’s unlike most other Irish whiskeys out there in that it’s not that cloying honied fruit profile. There’s more going on, more to it than that and it’s driven by malt. Which I appreciate immensely.

Aroma is a warm and fruity delivery layered with earthier and maltier notes that give this an inviting profile; Palate is a heavier, maltier, darker delivery of similar profiles to the aroma, with a sweetness that’s more subtle, but more complex; Finish is the only place oak really shows up and it’s a welcome note to end on.

The Busker Triple Cask Irish Whiskey shows what can be done with a blend when you start with good components and lean heavily into the malt instead of the grain. Everything comes together nicely here and ends up being an easy-sipping, and easy mixing, whiskey.
