Beginning this August, Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse will display some of the crown’s most stunning diamond jewelry. The exhibit is in honor of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee, and according to Rapaport, “will show the various ways that diamonds have been used and worn by British monarchs over the past two centuries. The exhibition also includes an unprecedented number of the Queen’s personal jewels that have been inherited or acquired during her 60-year reign.”
The exhibit celebrates the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, or her 60th anniversary as the Queen of England. The only other British monarch to have had a Diamond Jubilee was Queen Victoria, hence why so many of her jewels are also on display. The celebration falls this June, and coincides with Queen Elizabeth’s 86th birthday.
The exhibit will also feature ”The Girls of Great Britain’ Tiara, Queen Victoria’s Fringe Brooch, the miniature crown worn by Queen Victoria for her official Diamond Jubilee portrait 1897, the South Africa Necklace and historic objects.
