I’m not a huge fan of That Boutique-y Whisky Company. Nothing they put out fully resonates with me and I always end up feeling let down by what I’m drinking and this Boutique-y 50-Year-Old Blended Whisky is no different. At this point I’m completely over this brand and no matter what they put out I’ll be passing right on by.

“The label on our Blended Whisky #1 is something of a metaphor. It’s a perfectly smooth sphere, free of any spikey bits – just like the whisky itself. Does the sphere taste like the excellent whisky? We don’t know. We only visualised what the sphere looked like in our minds as we were creating the whisky, for inspiration and that. We didn’t think to taste the sphere. Look, the yummy blended whisky probably tastes way better than the sphere anyway, stop focusing so much on the bloomin’ sphere!”

EYE
Nut brown
NOSE
Toffee, caramel, dried fruit, roasted malt and a touch of smoke. It’s pleasant, but not complex.
PALATE
Toffee, caramel, dried fruit, roasted malt and a touch of smoke and copper. Again, it’s pleasant, but not complex.
FINISH
Medium fade of malt, copper, smoke and a a bit of oak.
BALANCE, BODY & FEEL
Ok sense of balance, medium body and a soft light feel.
OVERALL
The Boutique-y 50-Year-Old Blended Whisky is an under-whelming whisky and is the most severe example of “age doesn’t mean quality” I’ve yet to encounter. The aroma, taste and finish were on the flat side and lacked any true sense of depth or complexity and ended up being “just ok”.
I revisited this one multiple times over the evening to see if I was possibly missing something, but neither time nor air, nor even a bit of water, helped this whisky much. It was outshone by nearly everything we had on the table for tasting that evening. Boutique-y 50-Year-Old Blended Whisky is another swing and a miss for the Boutique brand.
