Booker’s Beaten Biscuits (2019-04) Review

By Josh Peters @TheWhiskeyJug

The last batch of Booker’s, for 2019, is the subject of today’s bourbon review; Booker’s Beaten Biscuits (2019-04). I’m a big fan of Booker’s, I’ve never had a bad batch and its been a staple in my home bar since about 2006/2007 when I have first gifted a bottle of Booker’s Bourbon back in UT. I know that’s a bit late to the game, but that’s just how it worked living in the most controlling of control states. We didn’t exactly have easy access to good booze.

Booker’s Beaten Biscuits (2019-04) Review: Details and Tasting Notes

In Jim Beam’s Words:

“This batch is named after the small, cracker-like biscuits my dad, Booker Noe, loved to make. Like his bourbon and his country hams, he was meticulous about getting them just right. Dad learned to make beaten biscuits from his grandmother, and he spent years trying to perfect the recipe”

Oak, dried dark fruit, baking spice, vanilla and toffee with bits of nuts and menthol.

PALATE
Oak, dried dark fruit, baking spice, cocoa, caramel, vanilla taffy, nuts and bits of mint and char.

BALANCE, BODY & FEEL
Good sense of balance, med-full body and a warm oily feel.

A tasty dry bourbon with plenty of oak to go around and mix with the darkly sweet and fruity notes that sit under the oak. A great last batch of 2019.

Booker’s Beaten Biscuits (2019-04) Review: Overall and Score

Aroma is classic Booker’s but a bit drier and more oak-driven, not as oily and sweet as many other batches; Palate is quite nutty but here the sweet notes come up to balance out the oak more; Finish is a nice even fade out of sweet and rustic notes. Water brings out even more oak and nuttiness on the aroma, on the palate it turns the fruit a bit jammy and some biscuity notes arrive that remind me of the Jim Beam Distiller’s Cut.

Booker’s Beaten Biscuits (2019-04) is another good Booker’s release and was a great way for them to end 2019. This really is the gem in the Jim Beam line and I can’t wait to see what 2020 has in store for us on the Booker’s release front. Hope something can finally challenge that amazing Kentucky Chew that has yet to be dethroned.

SCORE: 4/5
