The Summer We All Ran Away The Summer We All Ran Away by Cassandra Parkin
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I received a copy of the book through NetGalley in exchange for an unbiased and honest review.

Davey is 19 years old when he decides to runaway. He gets himself so drunk that he barely remembers how he managed to get on a train to travel to someplace in the West Country. He manages to stumble his way onto the entrance of a very beautiful home.

He wakes the next day to find that a group of people have taken him in. He also finds out that they are not the owners of the home but are simply squatting. Davey is invited to stay with them and all he needs to do is to avoid asking any questions.

Years ago, the house that Davey finds himself in, used to belong to a rock-star named Jack Laker. Jack has burned himself out and is about to make a new album that will surely be his vehicle back to stardom.

Davey, along with Priss (his house mate) uncovers many of the house's secrets and learn that those secrets have drawn them, the inhabitants, together.

The Summer We All Ran Away is a story that takes the reader back and forth to the then (Jack Laker's time) and now (Davey's time). I have to admit that I was utterly confused while reading because I found the back and forth a little uncomfortable. However, I managed to get into the groove of the book at some point.

Being a debut novel, the book is a good effort. The story is a mixture of murder and deceit. It is a good read and a lot of readers will definitely like it.
