The Ouroboros Key The Ouroboros Key by Patricia Leslie
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I received a copy of the book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

The story of The Ouroboros Key is a little complicated (understatement). Dan Tenney was once a soldier and a photographer who currently works with a private investigation firm who is looking into the disappearance of a professor. While driving, he finds himself being chased and being shot at. His team mates at work try to look for him as he seemingly dropped off the map and find that he may have been seriously injured.

In reality, Dan has been rescued and is being cared for by two homeless men who live and hide in an abandoned building. But Dan seems to be very seriously hurt and the two men are losing the battle to save him. However, Dan's friends are finally able to find him and take him to a hospital where his recovery is painful and slow.

The team continues to try and look for the missing professor while also trying to make sense of what happened to Dan. They learn that the people who took a shot at Dan are part of some religious organization with ties to the Cathars.

As they try to make sense of so much information that comes their way, they also have to contend with a lot of mysterious clues and cryptic messages. The team finds itself mired in an age-old struggle to by a group of people sworn to keep very powerful secrets.

The book starts out exciting enough. During the second half of the book things suddenly become so sluggish and way too immersed in so many cryptic and confusing things that it takes a lot of patience and focus to understand what is going on.

I find parts of the story appear to be clipped -- with little or no explanations -- while others are too bogged down in descriptions and details that don't really add much to the story. All in all an okay read if you are looking for a book to help you pass the time.
