City of Glass is a definite improvement from the first two books of the Mortal Instruments series. Although I still find myself unable to appreciate the two main characters still (maybe there is something wrong with me, can't really say).
In this book, the shadowhunters of New York are all set to visit their home, Idris, the City of Glass. Clary is all set to go with them because she wants to find the only person who can help her make her mom all better. However, not everyone wants her to tag along.
At the appointed time, the shadowhunters find themselves under attack by the Forsaken and they have no choice but to fight the monsters and rush to Idris. Inadvertently, Jace takes a vampire, Simon, along with them which causes all sorts of problems for the group. Clary finds herself left behind and has to resort to her skills though she has not yet received any training.
The story now focuses on what happens within the city of the Nephilim. There is a lot of political wrangling, personal jealousies, selfish intentions, and pure evil. The whole shadowhunter way of life is now in doubt and there must be some changes made if they want to continue on.
This third book is exciting and there are many twists and turns. Still, I am enamored more with Simon, Magnus, Alex and Isabel. Valentine is definitely more evil (if that were possible) and there is now a new twist is truly unexpected.
Cassandra Clare finally provides good depth for the characters of Jace and Clary. I enjoyed reading the book and will definitely read the next one in the series.
