Severed: A Take of Sleepy Hollow is a twist of the story about the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow. The story revolves around Katrina Van Tassel who is the daughter of Sleepy Hollow's wealthiest man. Her mother had died when she was very young. In this story, the headless horseman is very real and has been seen repeatedly by many of the residents of the town.
One evening, the horseman made himself visible to Katrina and even whispered her name -- asking her to come to him. Katrina was terrified and kept the entire encounter quiet. Soon thereafter, the schoolteacher's body was found headless, all the residents of Sleepy Hollow were suddenly very afraid of the horseman.
The town council hires another teacher from Connecticut named Ichabod Crane. Mr. Crane is a very attractive man who had managed to catch the attention of Katrina's best friend. But it seems Ichabod has eyes for Katrina and this situation creates a lot of tension between the two girls.
The town has become a terrifying place to be at night. To make things more frightening for Katrina, the horseman has left his signature on the window of one of her close friends. Then even Ichabod appears to have attracted the attention of the horseman and the whole town believes that it is all because of Mr. Crane's unorthodox curriculum. Katrina is terrified and tries to find a way to help Ichabod.
Just when the people of Sleepy Hollow thought that the headless horseman has been dealt with, the horseman appears to everyone attending a get together. The townspeople then decide that the best way to get rid of the horseman is to handover Ichabod. Will Katrina manage to help Ichabod? What does the horseman want?
Severed is a very exciting twist on Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Dax Varley manages to create a very thrilling, suspenseful, and thoroughly absorbing. A tale that you will definitely enjoy.
