My rating: 2 of 5 stars
The book is actually a novella. The story revolves around a teenage girl named Macey McHenry who is some sort of spy in training. She enters a party at a posh venue with her parents. She is a high society girl and is seemingly bored with the party until she spots a teenaged boy named W.W. Hale V who is a very rich teen cum con man.
The party is then ruined by masked and armed men who enter, rob the guests, and hold them hostage. Luckily, Hale has an earpiece which allows him to communicate with his girlfriend Kat who is not at the party. (How the masked men never noticed his lips moving or that he has a comms unit in his ear is beyond me. I mean, if they were that dumb, how could they have become masked robbers cum hostage takers?) Macey and Hale team up to try and save the situation with the help of Hale's friend Kat.
There novella is an okay read. The book is part of a series and it is very obvious you will need to have read the previous books within the series to be better able to appreciate this novella. There are many people who will find the book exciting -- especially YA readers who love Ally Carter books.
I would have given it more stars if it were more developed and much longer so that there would be more details.
