Booth: Do you think maybe we could just use the word daughter?
Review: This week's Bones episode had maybe a bit too much going on. Between the camp murder, the hurricanes, Booth's over-protectiveness, Fisher's mother issues and the Hodgins family drama, I didn't really know what way to look. I get that they are trying to squeeze as much action as they can in this shortened season, but they need to give the viewer some time to breathe and assimilate different storylines, instead of rushing through everything like Schumacher towards the finish line. That was for the F1 fans out there.
Rant over, let's talk about Booth and Brennan (and, though I am lazy to type their names, I'm glad no one came up with a nickname for this couple as of yet). As a strongly independent woman myself, I seriously protested against Booth's overly protectiveness. I love the guy, he has a lot of good qualities I look for in a man (heck, Mr. Boreanaz was my first TV crush, after all!), but this is one of the things I really dislike about him. If I were Bones, I'd kick him where it hurts most and she wasn't far from doing that. But, after all, what makes their relationship special is the differences between the two and nothing cracks me up more than when Brennan's pragmatism clashes with Booth's "delusions".
As for Angela and Hodgins, they are in the no sleep stage and having Angela's father around is not helping lighten the mood. The mood in their family, of course, because otherwise, Billy Gibbons and his parenting skills are always good at providing lots of laughs. Not to mention that baby Michael's presence raises the cuteness level to extremes. Damn, I'm such a sucker for babies!
Listing from this week's highlights - Hodgins' coffee frenzy, that made him look like the squirrel from Over the Hedge; Fisher's ringtone ("Don't forget to call your mother") and the relationship with his protective, motivational quotes-reciting mom ("Hey, the only difference between try and triumph is a little "umph.""); the MiniMoho; Booth's face when Brennan left him, stranded in the middle of nowhere without his car. And last, but not least, how cool was it that Michael could only sleep on "them low-down blues, and that good, rockin' boogie"? Teaching good music to a child from their very first days is essential for their future personality development.
Bones takes a break until January 12, when the winter finale will air, leaving us the ever so annoying The Finder, but that just means I'll have more time to revisit the first six seasons until it's time for baby Booth to be born.Bones 7x04: The Male in the Mail Back to Season 1
