What is Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)?
The Bombay stock exchange (BSE) is the oldest stock exchange in Asia. Earlier, the BSE was named as “The Native Share & Stock Brokers Association,” which was established in 1875. It is the first stock exchange in India to be incorporated under the Security Contracts (Regulation) Act 1956. The BSE is located on Dalal Street in Mumbai and is managed by its Board of Directors comprising of eminent people from the industries and commerce and also headed by the Managing director and CEO. As on Dec 2010, there are over 5034 listed Indian companies and over 7700 scrips on the Bombay stock exchange (BSE) with market capitalization of US$1.63 trillion. It is also known as “BSE-30″, and the main objective is to provide a market platform for the sale and purchase of security evidencing the ownership of business property or of a public or business debts.
The SENSitive indEX of BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange) is known as SENSEX. It is basically an indicator of all the major companies of the Asia’s oldest stock exchange i.e. BSE. If SENSEX goes up, it indicates that the prices of all the top and actively traded stocks in the BSC have gone up. And on the contrary, if SENSEX goes down, it indicates that the prices of all the top and actively traded stocks in the BSC have gone down. SENSEX consists of thirty top-traded stocks in Bombay Stock Exchange, which may vary from time to time depending on many factors considered by BSC. A SENSEX thirty stock list is as follows:-
