Bollywood actress Jiah Khan allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her Juhu residence in Mumbai, the police said.
According to police, the incident occurred at about 11pm on Monday. Her body has been sent to Cooper Hospital for postmortem.
The 25-year-old was born in New York and brought up in London before moving to Mumbai for a career in Bollywood.
Jiah Khan, also known by the name Nafisa Khan, made her debut in 2007 with the controversial flick Nishabd, where she acted opposite Amitabh Bachchan. She also acted opposite Akshay Kumar in Housefull and Aamir Khan in Ghajini.
Sources close to the actress said that she had been depressed for some time due to personal issues, but was keen on returning to acting soon.
The police are interrogating her maid, watchman, neighbors and to find out who last visited her.
