Bob Pressner – “King of Nothing”

photo_5761When you are a singer/songwriter it sometimes doesn’t go across the right way.  Well when I heard a few songs that Bob Pressner did for his new album “King of Nothing” I knew he didn’t have that problem.

This singer/songwriter began playing the guitar at the young age of 15.  He then released album after album on his own small label.  While doing that he was sending them off like no tomorrow to get into the business.  One day he was able to catch someone’s eye.  That someone was Jim McGorman, he has worked with Michelle Branch and Avril Lavigne.  What they created was a sound that sounded like the Goo Goo Dolls.  I do hear that but I feel like this sounds a little bit more acoustic then Goo Goo Dolls.

The album starts off with the title track “King of Nothing”.  This is a great song to start off the album.  The drums and acoustic guitar along with his voice start off the song then little by little the other instruments join in at just the right time.  This is a must download.  The chorus sounds amazing and the vocals sound perfect for the sound he is going for.  I also love how when it’s not the chorus it is very light and during the second verse they make sure you can hear the strings that are involved in this song.

His latest single that is out is called “Next Summer Never Came”.  I can hear why they released this song as a single.  It is very catchy and everything is very well done.  This song reminds me of Ryan Cabrera.

The next song that caught my eye and I can see becoming a big hit is called “iGirl”.  I love how he incorporates the technology we use everyday in this song to talk about a girl.  My favorite line in this song is “We tough our pads, we touch our phones, we find ourselves all alone.”  Another reason why I love this song is that this is one that would get played on the radio in the car with the windows down singing along.

My other favorite song off this album is called “Renaissance Man”.  This really shows his more rock side.  The album pretty much was more Acoustic Rock and this is more plan old Rock with the electric guitars.  It’s nice to see that he is able to do this since his voice is perfect for this style of music.  I hope he makes more music like this in the future.

The album has a few more upbeat songs such as: “I’m Not That Guy”, “Honor Among Theives”.  It’s nice to see that he was able to do more upbeat songs like these and show that rock side of his.

The album ends with a song called “Here At The Western Wall”.  I think this is the perfect song to end the album.  This has the same tempo as how the album started and it just seems to sum everything up very nicely.

I give this album a 5/5.  And it’s your lucky day readers it’s up on iTunes so you can get yourself a copy!  I suggest you go into iTunes now to download yourself a copy.
